RGES static barrier around a naval vessel in port
Non-lethal vessel stopping

RGES – Running Gear
Entanglement System

Developed in cooperation with the US Coast Guard, the US Navy and the UK HOSDB, RGES provides a non-lethal and less-than-lethal means of stopping a wide range of propeller-driven vessels – from small, high-speed boats to larger displacement hulls.

Stop the vessel, not the people

RGES products use proprietary geometries and materials with extremely high tensile strength-to-weight ratios to entangle a vessel’s propeller and running gear.

  • Port security and protection of high-value assets
  • Protection of exclusive economic zones against illegal fishing
  • Non-lethal interdiction of smuggling, illegal immigration and piracy
  • Policing of fishing vessels

Deployment options

Static barriers

The RGES S100 is a lightweight, highly portable, modular static barrier entanglement system. It establishes a perimeter of any length, creating a sterile area with a clear line of demarcation – a first line of less-than-lethal defence for berthed vessels and port assets.

Launched payloads

The SF-40 payload (40 ft / 12 m) is launched by the ALM with a 4,500 psi high-pressure projectile to entangle the propellers of a non-compliant vessel. Kit 474 includes the launcher and two payloads.

Towed & manual

The RGES PED (Kit 488) is towed from a small assault craft across the path of a larger displacement-hull vessel. Manually deployed RGES solutions are also available – contact us to discuss your vessel types and operating area.

RGES™ PED – Propeller Entanglement Device

The RGES PED stops or impedes a displacement-hull vessel by entangling its single or multi engine/shaft configuration. It is towed from a small assault craft directly across the path of the larger target vessel.

  • Tested on vessels with up to twin 785 HP inboard diesel engines at 25 knots
  • Payload length 40 ft / 12 m (Kit 488) or 80 ft / 24 m (Kit 488L)
  • Tensile strength: loop chord 51,400 lbs / 23,315 kg, lower chord 110,000 lbs / 49,895 kg
  • Repacked in the field without special equipment
  • Can be deployed from small, medium and large vessels, aircraft, helicopters, submarines and swimmer delivery vehicles
  • Can be part of a layered barrier defence and protect an Exclusive Economic Zone against illegal intrusions

PED configurations are tailored to each class of target vessel, and we can design a PED for your specific application. All RGES PED inquiries are kept confidential.
